What Industries Do Energy & Power Technicians Work In?

If you like working with your hands and have a passion for working with motors and problem solving, apply for enrollment in one of our energy technician programs. Because Energy Technicians acquire such a wide array of skills, successful graduates will have entry-level career choices in a variety of areas in the energy industry to include, Wind, Gas, Coal, Nuclear, Solar, Standby Power, Geothermal, Hydroelectric, Methane/Landfill Gas Generation, Power Distribution and Dispatch, and Water Treatment.

MIAT now offers a NEW AAS (Associate) Degree Program in Energy Technology in addition to Certificates/Diplomas for Energy & Industrial Technician and Wind Power Technician.

How Long Does the Program Take?

There are actually three separate Certificate/Diploma and Degree Programs in Energy at MIAT. The longest is the AAS (Associates) Degree in Energy Technology, which can be completed in as little as 16 months. There are also certificate/diploma programs that can be completed in as little as 7 or 9 months. Contact us and one of our admissions representatives will explain how it works.

Just like you, every career is unique. MIAT can’t guarantee employment, but we do have a career services office that is dedicated to helping our graduates find jobs and to working with employers who are actively looking for Energy and Industrial technicians. A sample of entry-level careers include: Power Plant Operator, Maintenance Worker/Repairer, Industrial Mechanic, Electrical/Electrician Repairer, Auxiliary Operator, Control Operator, Operations and Maintenance Technician, Field Service Technician, Boiler Operator, Gas Turbine Technician, Wind Turbine Construction Technician, Wind Service Technician, and Solar Installation Technician.
